Easy Steps to Bench Knife Sharpening

Premium – Set of 4 – Hand Sharpened Fishtail Wood Carving Tools for Detail Work

I use beginner quality wood carving tool sets because I teach beginning wood carving.  I don’t use tools that are super cheap from the local big box store, and I don’t use tools that  are well out of the price range for a beginner who does not yet know if they will love wood carving the way I do.  I do use the very tools that I suggest for my beginners …. nice quality, good to get your stared, won’t break the bank tools.

But, OH!, Geez-zoo-flip!! I never expected to own one set of highest quality wood carving tools, that I discovered in my stocking this morning.  I think I have been forever spoiled, never able to go back to ‘regular’ beginner’s tool sets again.

And (bragging here a bit) there wasn’t one set but three that will ensure a lifetime of carving fun !!!!!  Ahhhh!!!!!

Premium – Set of 7 – Hand Sharpened Beginner Wood Carving Tools – Additional Profiles

So, the big questions…

*     Yes, they are high quality steel!
*     Yes, you can get them pre-sharpened by the experts at SchaafTools.com.
*      Yes, the handles fit my women’s smaller hand size wonderfully with lots of comfortable room left for our large-handed carvers.
*      Yes, the variety of tool profiles are just want my beginners will be using.
*      And yes!!! They are very affordable for any beginning carver and will last a lifetime.

Premium – Set of 12 – Hand Sharpened Full Size Quality Wood Carving Tools for Beginners

So if you don’t hear from me for a while, it not because I am ignoring you … its that I am hold-up in the wood studio letting the basswood chips fly with gay abandonment!

( … and it’s OK to be envious this morning … if I were reading this I would be … grin!!!! …)

Basic Carving Tools

As a beginning carver, the choice of carving tools available can be overwhelming. Which tools you really need to learn this craft and which tools you really will use can be a hard decision. There are several basic tool shapes that are standard to this hobby.  Take a quick look at the different tool profiles available for your use.

Beginner’s Whittling and relief Carving Tool Kit

A basic relief carving or whittling tool set contains far more than just your carving tools and knives. Let’s take an in-depth look at some of the common supplies you may use in your carving craft. All photos in this article are large-sized and labeled. Please click on any image to show the full-sized photo.

Carving Tools Close-Up

Here is a quick visual close-up of some of my favorite carving tools. This grouping will eventually find their way onto the work table during any carving project. The vast majority of the tools show here are between 25 and 40 years old since most are inherited from my father’s many years of wood carving. Your investment in good quality tools will last beyond your life time.
