Cosplay Fantasy Dagger – Sculpture foam

Cosplay and diorama terrain game building are all the rage today.  This fantasy knife, made from sculpture foam, rests on a white taill deer antler, which is also foam created.  The only weight to this plaque lies in the round basswood slab.  The dagger rests in the antler spike and can easily be removed for play and rest back into the antlers after the fun is done.

The map on the basswood slab is a map of the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland and worked with artist quality colored pencils.

Supplies needed for this project

12″ x 6″ x 2″ sculpture foam

10″ x 13″ x 3/4″ basswood end slab

flat aluminum jewelry wire

assorted lampwork jewelry beads

assorted metal jewelry beads

super glue

colored pencil set

Nordic Style Carving – Sculpture Foam

Nordic Style Carving is worked with smooth edges, simple shapes, and little or no detailing.  When worked in wood, as sugar pine or black walnut, the wood grain becomes the dominate feature of the carving.

With high density sculpture foam, a Nordic styled bird carving becomes the base for adding small areas of texture or as the background for a full acrylic scene painting.

Supplies

6″ x 5″ x 1″ block of sculpture foam
basic set of carving knives
220- and 320-grit sandpaper
graphite paper for tracing
6mm black glass beads for the eyes
acrylic craft paints
